Different Chlamydia Test Results: WHY?

Chlamydia infections are the most common sexually transmitted infections in the world. Frequently, we encounter discordant chlamydia infections in couples, meaning that one partner is positive while the other is negative. This can baffle the parties involved and be the seed of distrust. There are, however, plausible explanations for the discrepancy in test results other than cheating. Couples going for chlamydia testing need to be aware of the possibility of sero-different chlamydia results that are not uncommon. There may be a simple explanation. NAAT- nucleic acid amplification tests, such as the PCR, can be inaccurate. The natural history of chlamydia infections in humans may be such as to produce just such a result.
