What Complications Can Impetigo Cause?
Most cases of impetigo resolve without lasting problems when treated appropriately. Complications are uncommon, but they can occur.
Possible complications include infection spreading into deeper skin tissue, scarring with the deeper form called ecthyma, and—in rare cases—a kidney condition called post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis. Seek medical attention if redness spreads, pain increases, fever develops, or the person appears unwell.
